The Holocaust Requiem

In 1988 the Holocaust Requiem was performed at the Tillis Center of Long Island University (C.W. Post campus) by the Brooklyn Philharmonic under Lukas Foss.
Leading Christian Churches and Jewish Temples sponsored this ecumenical event on the fiftieth anniversary of “Krystalnacht”, the “Night of Broken Glass”, when anti-semitic riots in Germany attacked hundreds of synagogues, Jewish stores and homes. The performance was preceded by a procession of children holding lighted candles into the darkened auditorium, in memory of the one and a half million murdered children whom this Requiem commemorates.
