The Holocaust Requiem

Terezin

The Holocaust Requiem opened the historic 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the liberation of the Nazi camp Terezin, under the auspices of President Vaclav Havel, in the presence of the President of the Czech Parliament Milan Ürde (seen here on the extreme right), the Ambassadors of some thirty nations, and a large audience which included around 400 survivors. Jiri Valek conducted the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, with soprano soloist Anna Dvorak and the State Opera Chorus. After the laying of wreaths in the Cemetery, the Holocaust Requiem was performed in the “Little Fortress” of Terezin on a stage erected in front of the wall once used for executions by Gestapo firing squads.
